Say “NO” to Data Centers

Sedgwick county has spoken loud and clear that a data center is not wanted here. Data centers have caused significant harm in areas where they have been built. Our county is already fighting longstanding drought conditions. A report by the International Energy Agency estimated one center could consume 2 million liters of water a day. A town in Oregon reported 30% of their water consumption was from a Google data center. We do not need the potential water loss that a data center would create. Residents that live near data centers have reported noise pollution so significant it disrupted their sleep, caused heightened stress, rendered their outdoor living spaces unusable, and reduced their property value. The potential energy consumption is a major concern as well. A single data center can consume as much electricity as 50,000 homes, causing a significant demand increase on the electrical grid. While living in California during the energy crisis of 2000-2001, I lived with rolling blackouts. We do not want to willingly create a similar energy crisis here.
